PASTURE-RAISED • DARLING DOWNS, QUEENSLAND

Good eggs start with a good life.

The Good Dozen raises hens the way hens are meant to live—out on real pasture, scratching, foraging, dust-bathing and roaming under the watch of Maremma guardians. The result is honest farm eggs with strong shells, firm whites, rich yolks and proper flavour.

01

Real pasture

The paddock is part of everyday life—not a token outdoor area. The hens have room to roam, scratch, forage, dust-bathe and explore.

02

A calmer flock

Low stocking density means less crowding, cleaner ground and more opportunity to notice when an individual hen needs care.

03

Protection without cages

Shelter, clean water, balanced feed and resident Maremma guardians help the flock live safely while staying free to behave naturally.

MORE THAN FREE-RANGE

Free-range is the starting point. Pasture-raised goes further.

“Free-range” covers a very broad range of farming systems. Pasture-raised means the outdoor life is central to how the flock is managed—not an optional extra.

At The Good Dozen, the hens spend their days on grass at a low stocking density, moving, foraging and interacting as a flock. The pasture is managed to support the birds and the land together.

What that looks like in practice

✓ room to scratch, forage and dust-bathe
✓ fresh ground and natural daylight
✓ shelter from harsh weather
✓ daily observation and hands-on care

FROM PADDOCK TO PAN

Crack one and you’ll see it.

Freshness, careful handling and a healthy flock show up where it matters: in the shell, the bowl and the pan.

Strong shells

Better natural protection and fewer disappointments between carton and kitchen.

Firm whites

Fresh whites hold close to the yolk—excellent for frying, poaching and baking.

Rich yolks

Golden colour, satisfying texture and the proper flavour people expect from real farm eggs.

Natural variation

Size, shape and colour can shift with the hen, season and age. That is part of buying a natural product.

A GOOD DAY’S WORK

From paddock to plate.

No mystery. Just careful farming, clean handling and a short path between the hen and your kitchen.

1

Roam

The flock starts the day outside, moving through pasture and doing ordinary chicken things.

2

Lay

Hens return to safe, sheltered nesting areas when it is time to lay.

3

Collect & grade

Eggs are collected, checked, graded and packed with traceability and food safety in mind.

4

Households and food businesses receive fresh eggs in cartons or catering trays, subject to availability.

Retired laying hens

PREORDER HENS

MEET THE NIGHT SHIFT

The girls have backup.

Maremma livestock guardian dogs live alongside the flock. They are calm around the hens, alert to anything unusual and a powerful deterrent to foxes and other predators.

That protection helps the hens use the paddock with less stress—by day, at dusk and through the night.

Good welfare is not one feature. It is the whole system working together.

THE GOOD DOZEN PROMISE

Straightforward farming. No fluffy claims.

We would rather show you how the system works than hide behind a label.

Welfare before marketing

Space, nutrition, water, shelter, protection and daily observation come before slogans.

Freshness you can cook with

Eggs are collected and packed carefully so their texture and performance reach the kitchen intact.

Honest seasonal supply

Hens are living animals. Sizes and quantities naturally change through the year.

Biosecurity taken seriously

Keeping disease and contaminants away from the flock protects welfare, food safety and local egg supply.

A WORKING, BIOSECURE FARM

The best visit is one that does not put the hens at risk.

The farm is not open for casual visits, tours or unconfirmed farm-gate collection. Limiting traffic helps keep disease, pests and contaminants away from the flock. Approved delivery or off-farm collection arrangements are confirmed with each order.
